Believe it or not, spring is coming. With it will come the sun, melting the monotone grays of winter to make way for the daffodils and tulips. While we're all excited for spring's colors, brides and grooms to be have an even greater sense of anticipation. Bridal showers and engagement parties are on the calendar. Wedding planning ramps into high gear. There are decisions to be made.
One question couples find themselves asking is "do we need engagement photos?". As an Akron Wedding Photographer, I've always felt that the engagement session was important. I started thinking of reasons for the session, and quickly came up with a list:
-It gives you a chance to get to know your wedding photographer.
-It gives your wedding photographer a chance to get to know you.
-Spending and hour or two in front of the camera will help you to be more comfortable on your wedding day.
-Save the Dates!
As I thought about what was important about engagement photos, I realized that the obvious reasons were missing the point. Being engaged is a magical time. In the grand scheme of things, it's a tiny sliver of the story that is our lives. It's the moment a couple embarks on a lifelong journey together. Isn't it important to have photographs to document such a pivotal part of our lives?
Photographs have value now, in the present. We can send cool save the dates, create beautiful albums, put a portrait on the wall. With the passage of time, photographs become priceless. "Look, this photo is grandpa and I when we were young, when we had just fallen in love". That's a reason to schedule an engagement session.
